Infographic Paragraph Narrative

My infographic explains the essence of the Cognitive Dissonance theory through providing several different aspects about the theory. I included a brief definition of this theory at the top of the infographic, especially since the explanation of this theory can get confusing at times. I also included information about its origins with the original author, Leon Festinger, and how it impacted both psychology and communication fields. I also wanted to include an example that is easy to understand- so I decided to include the example of a vegetarian feeling guilty after eating meat. Cognitive dissonance is experienced, making that person need to either rationalize or just live with feeling guilty. I included images that help explain and illustrate my point throughout this example, as well as overall in this infographic.

I’ve also included the impact on behaviors that studying cognitive dissonance theory can cause. I wanted to emphasize the point of being able to predict how people will respond to certain situations when experiencing cognitive dissonance. This would be through their changes in their thoughts, beliefs, actions, and attitudes. Additionally, I included information on how one could control and manage their levels of cognitive dissonance. With these tips, it can help others to limit the amount of cognitive dissonance experienced. This can be through learning new information to combat the incorrect or lack of information causing this phenomenon. Also through acknowledging your conflicting beliefs, and working towards restructuring and learning new thoughts and attitudes. Overall, I would say that this infographic clearly captures the essence of Cognitive Dissonance theory.
